Portraits

The portrait works presented here sit at the intersection of observation and connection, shaped by a deeply humanist approach to photography. Each image is less about the subject as an object, and more about the presence of a person in time: their gestures, their resilience, their story. The work moves between two spaces: on location within a social documentary paradigm, and within the studio environment. While the settings differ, the intent remains constant: to focus on the subject and the story they bring to the image.

Across this gallery, the approach is intentionally restrained. There is no attempt to over-direct or impose narrative. Instead, the images emerge through observation, allowing moments to unfold naturally. In this way, the work aligns with a humanist tradition where authenticity and lived experience take precedence over spectacle.

While I've received international awards and portrait prizes, I view them as secondary to the work's purpose. The aim is not to elevate the photographer, but to honour the subject. These portraits reflect an ongoing commitment to understanding the human condition. They are quiet records of connection, images that invite the viewer to pause, and to recognise the shared humanity within each frame.
