About

Dr Glenn Porter is a distinguished, award-winning photographer and academic whose work bridges the arts, forensic science, and visual criminology. Born in Sydney and raised in the rural community of Silverdale, he has built a deeply interdisciplinary career grounded in photography’s power to illuminate human experience. His practice is profoundly humanistic, exploring resilience, memory, and the complexities of social life through a contemporary lens. Originally trained in photography at the Sydney Institute of Technology, Porter has since earned multiple postgraduate degrees across the arts, science, and applied science—including a PhD in Communication Arts, a Master of Arts (Photography), a Master of Applied Science (Photography), and a Graduate Diploma in Science. He is recognised as an Accredited Senior Imaging Scientist (ASIS) and a Fellow (FRPS) of the Royal Photographic Society. Porter’s creative achievements include a Bronze Medal in the Documentary category at the Black & White Awards in Paris, and a series of acclaimed solo exhibitions: Out of the Shadows at the Head On Photo Festival in Sydney, Out of the Shadows at 5A1 Art Space Gallery in Shenzhen, China, and The Holga Experiment at the New England Regional Art Museum. His work has also been shortlisted for major international awards, including the Head On Portrait Award, Olive Cotton Award, Stanthorpe Photography Award, and the Mullins Conceptual Photography Prize. His photography has been exhibited widely in Australia and abroad, with works held in significant private and public collections. Across both his academic and creative research, Porter continues to examine the role of photography in storytelling, truth-seeking, and visual culture—revealing the depth, fragility, and enduring strength of the human spirit.
